About us

A little bit of our history

A little bit of our history

It is with the hand of Bernard Turin and a few enthusiasts that the first teachings of circus arts in Rosny-Sous-Bois appeared in 1983. This follows the desire of the municipality, embodied by Anny Goyer and Claude Pollet, to offer aerial activities to adults. This initiative was later expanded to children, and the multidisciplinary nature of the teachings led to the provision of quality training starting in 1986.

Quickly, the school stood out with its renewal of traditional circus, the avant-gardism of its productions and teachings, and this went beyond even national borders.

Five years passed and a growing success then led to the creation of the École de Cirque de Rosny-Sous-Bois, and then in 1994, to the succession of Anny Goyer by Bernard Turin, who was already at the head of the Centre National des Arts du Cirque de Châlons-en-Champagne (CNAC). When entrusted with the BATC, Brevet Artistique des Techniques de Cirque, the school took the name ENACR, which it still carries today, an acronym for École Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-Sous-Bois. In parallel, ENACR developed partnerships abroad that would continue to cement its international reputation.

Space

The largest circus tent in Europe

It is under an unusual and atypical village marquee of 2340 m2 that the ENACR initiates and trains both young and adult artists in the arts of circus, aspiring artists, and professionals of the stage.

Designed by architects Patrick Bouchain and Loïc Julienne, the marquee of the ENACR was conceived as a large tent/dragon kite with seven masts that resembles the body of a Dragon.

Specifics

Oval-shaped, the ENACR's performance hall consists of a main track measuring 16m x 14m and peripheral training areas, as well as a semi-circular zone equipped with telescopic bleachers that can accommodate between 210 to 630 people depending on the configurations. This venue, designed to meet the requirements of teaching circus arts, allows for the practice of all circus techniques (except magic and working with animals), and can fulfill all the functions of a true performance space.
